Suzanne van Baarsen (1980) is a multidisciplinary artist based in her hometown of Alkmaar (NL). Specializing in various media, including textiles, beadwork, collage, stamps, and small metalwork, she works in both 2D and 3D. Characteristic of her work are crocheted sculptures adorned with layers of beads, embroidery, and sometimes details in brass and copper. Additionally, she creates textile collages using patchwork techniques, origami, and embroidery. She also produces works on paper or fabric, using stamps with symbols. The combination of these materials and techniques results in series in which Suzanne explores various perspectives within specific themes.

The artist delves deep into processes of personal development and interpersonal psychological dynamics. Her work reflects a visual narrative of her personal experience with the interaction between the inner and outer world. Her creations serve as a symbolic, coded, language capturing the multidimensional aspects of the visible and invisible. The series on the theme ‘The Ladder of Divine Ascent' illustrate Suzanne's conceptual strength, seamlessly integrating her diverse disciplines to tell stories that highlight a broad spectrum on the theme and prompt contemplation. With this theme, stamps (initiated in 1998) made a comeback in her arsenal of media. The sculpture 'Forest Walk' marked a shift towards abstraction, using branches from the nearby forest and opening up new dimensions of artistic possibilities.

Suzanne van Baarsen has exhibited in venues such as the Museum of Beadwork in Portland (MN, USA), Museum Kranenburgh in Bergen N-H (NL), and Nieuw Dakota in Amsterdam (NL). Her work 'Forest Walk' received an honorable mention at the TxP festival in Rosmalen (NL). Her piece 'Scarabaeus Ignis' was selected for the exhibition Wings & Stings at the Museum of Beadwork in Portland (MN, USA). Suzanne's work is collected in various national private collections.
